I'm looking for information regarding my great-great grandmother Amanda Boettcher, who emigrated to the United States from Bayern, Germany. Her parents were Frederick Boettcher (Betcher) and Louise Grenkke. According to census records Amanda's parents were Polish, though records indicate that Amanda was born in Krausendarf, Russia on 13 August 1883. I've not been able to locate this town (and given the Bolshevik revolution and the way the Soviets re-named things, who knows what it's called now). Does anybody out there know how I can find this town and information on my family.

It's interesting to me to note that my family has a German surname, though census records list them as Polish. And my great grandmother has a very Anglican first name (Amanda) with the German last name, but was born in Russia.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Ken Camp

Are you sure that the records list the village as a RUSSIAN village and not PRUSSIAN?
There is a village, that earlier was called Krausendorf. That could be the reason why your family is listed as being Polish. Perhaps they were polish citizen, but of german nationality.
