Would any one know how to find a first settlers list of this village? I was just reading about how it came into existence,
and noted that there were two Sperling families. (alas, there were no first names)
It is my understanding that the settlers of this village came from the Borzna district in Chernigov.

There is a 1807 Revision List in the Stumpp Book The Emigration from Germany to Russia in the Years 1763-1862, pg 842 for Klien-Werder. Hope this helps.

Thanks Gayla.
We bought two Stumpp books when we were in Bismarck last August on our way to Lincoln, Nebraska.
Got around to looking at them, and saw there were some Sperlings shown on that census. Unfortunately they were not the first name Sperlings I'd hoped to find. Guess we will have to continue our search for the elusive Valentine Sperling married to Katherine Knorr. I am thinking that Valentine Sperling would have been born around 1850, since his son Conrad (my grandfather) was born in 1869
Thank you for your help.
Wes

Keep checking the Black Sea German Research database http://www.blackseagr.org as new trees are added every week. Eventually someone will know something about this elusive Valentine Sperling.
