Thanks Gayla,
I have previously found information on the area, and have been in contact with Morris Knorr, who has done lots of research, travelling there as well, and who provided me with a few photos.
What I'm really seeking is a connection between the family I know of from that area (grandparents, greatgrandparents and a couple of aunts and uncles) and the older information that is available in historical records. We also don't have anyone in the family who was reunited later with family they lost contact with during the war, so finding people who were nieces and nephews of my grandparents would be wonderful too. The ties of communication between Europe and North America went quiet at that point, and my grandparents were not asked about that kind of information while they were alive
The Heinrich Schreiber is probably related, so thank you. We have no idea how, as our line at the moment ends around 1850 or so. It does make it clear that my next genealogical purchase will finally be the Karl Stumpp book.
My grandmother's name, Eichwald, was also the name of a town pretty close to Grosswerder.
These families were, as far back as we know, Catholic.
Thanks again
Nicole
