1) If I submit a GEDCOM to the Black Sea database will others be able to download your GEDCOM?
As the database administrator of the Black Sea website, I can assure you that NO ONE will be able to download your complete GEDCOM. They will, however, be able to view your GEDCOM and print ancestor/descendant charts for four generations at a time.

2) As a researcher, it is your responsibility to source where you received information on individuals in your tree. It is also YOUR responsibility to VERIFY the data and the sources of the data you copy from the trees on our website.

3) How do I submit a GEDCOM to the Black Sea database?
Send your GEDCOM to database@blackseagr.org

4) What are the guidelines for submitting a GEDCOM:
Go to http://www.blackseagr.org/gedcom-submit.html

5) How do I create a GEDCOM from the genealogy program that I am using?
Go to http://www.blackseagr.org/gedcom-create.html. Most genealogy programs have the ability to export your data to a GEDCOM.

6) Do I need to privatize the data before I send it to you?
No, we will automatically privatize your GEDCOM to protect those still living.

7) Can I add to my GEDCOM once I have submitted it?
Yes, just send us a new GEDCOM and we will replace the current one on our website.

8) What if I want to change the date of birth of just one person on my GEDCOM, do I need to send a new GEDCOM?
No, if you have just one or two changes, send them to database@blackseagr.org and they can be made directly to our tree online. Be very specific about who the change is to be made to as well as what the change is.

9) Can anyone see the information contained in my GEDCOM?
Yes, the Black Sea German Research website is a freely sharing website. If you include comments in the notes section of your family tree that you do not want others to see, please mark them "Private" and do not export the "Private" comments when you create your GEDCOM. Most programs will give you that option.
