Hello all my friends at Black Sea German Research! I have recently posted my GEDCOM "Christman Family by Toni Christman". My ancestors from the Odessa area (Freudental, Hoffnungstal, Petersthal, and a couple of other small villages) came to Texas and Oklahoma in 1887 and 1890. I am 1/4 German Russian descent and 3/4 Appalachian Scots-Irish and English. My entire family is in the GEDCOM posting - including the Appalachians, should this interest anyone. In the meantime, I am interested in contacting anyone who has ancestors or living relatives in the north Texas area or southern Oklahoma that are from the Odessa area. My main family names are Christmann, Oster, and Oberlander. Other names include Bittermann, Dupper, Schmidt, and Hendrick. There are many names in the lists available to me on this site which correspond with my tree - way too many to mention them all. So, if your family came from the Ukraine to south Texas via ships from Germany - give me a response - let's talk! :D

Hi Toni,

My only connection to Texas is the GAUER family from around Crawford, McLennan Co, Texas. I would be very interesting in learning more about this family. The first Gauer of this family in Texas was Jacob Gauer born May 12, 1853 in Augustdorf, Galizien, Austria. He immigrated to Texas in 1889.

Hi Murray -

Yes, you and I have talked before; but it was over a year ago so you may not remember me. I have not yet found any Gauer in my tree, but I never know just who I will find. Should I run into this family name among my relatives, I'll let you know. I do have people in my tree as far from Grayson Co as McClennan is - about 100-150 miles. Texas is so big - it is hard to estimate mileage unless one travels that road fairly often.

Best wishes,
Toni Christman :D
