Hi! I'm looking for Russian born (Grossliebental, Freudental, Hoffnungsburg, possible other villages in Odessa) Christman(n), Oster, and Oberlander families who came out of Bremen Germany to New York 1886 and Baltimore 1887. I have found groups I believe are mine, but all I can use for support is family stories, burial sites with photos, and US Census records from 1900 forward. My direct family came to Texas eventually. Thanks to all of you who have already put the generous amount of information on this site. :D

My step-family were Osters, and I went to school with Oberlanders and Christmanns up in Hazen, Mercer County, North Dakota. They're all still up there, too. If you're bold, you can hit the phone books and either write to them or just call them. They'll probably be happy to talk to you.

My step-grandfather was Edward Oster, son of Christian. He married a Christine Sailer. His family came from Eigenfeld, around 1886. It appears, however, that they came on Hamburg. But that's not to say some of the others might not have come on Bremen.

Thank you very much, Sandra and Murray. I have strong evidence that some of my great-grandparents' siblings went to the Dakotas instead of coming south. That includes all the names you listed. Your information is quite welcome! 8-)

Make sure you keep checking the Black Sea German database as I just posted some new information on some of those surnames this past week.
