We are researching Conrad Sperling (b 1869 Russia) and his father Valentin Sperling, also born in Russia.
Conrad died at Luseland, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1913. He was married to Anna Wagner, from Russia. We don't have any info on where she was born, or where her parents were born.
We do know that her parents Michael Wagner b 1848 and Katherine Barr b 1850 were buried in Bodo Alberta, Canada.
When Conrad died, Anna married Joesph Schachtel.
Valentine Sperling was married to Katherine Knorr, we think.
We think that these people all came from GrosWerder Russia, because Anna's brother Adam Wagner was born there. (There is a certificate showing that)
Conrad and Anna Sperling, Michael and Katherine Wagner arrived 1907 at Halifax (in a family group of 22)

Hello Wes, I have already forwarded your very first post to an accomplished researcher, Morris Knorr, whose ancestors stem from Grosswerder. I have asked him to respond to you directly. I found two Sperling names in my database from the Allan, SK area. Now Morris grew up not too far from Luseland, so he may have some Sperling clues as well.
By the way, I also have some Kohlmans in my database. Joseph Kohlman (1938-2009) married Marie Kratchmer, who is a second cousin to me.
Keep in touch with me on this. I might have someone with connections to Bodo, if I can find her email address.

Merv Weiss, Saskatoon.

Thanks Merv! We have been in contact with Morris Knorr, and got his book last year. We still don't know if he has a Conrad or Valentin Sperling in his database. There were a lot of Knorrs and Sperlings in GrosWerder. He was kind enough also to send us a couple pictures from Groswerder.
The Kohlman line of my family are from Schuk, and with a lot of help, we found 5 generations of our Kohlmanns from Schuk and one from Germany before that.
If the Joseph Kohlman you mentioned has ancestors from Schuck, its possible it could be the same line. Do you have a maternal or paternal name for the parents of Joseph b 1938?
We have visited the Assumption Cemetery in Bodo a couple of times now....and took some pictures of Michael and Katherine Wagner's grave markers. Also took some pictures of some Sperling grave markers, but do not know if they are related.
Wes
