What I remember about my grandmother Ottilia is not much compared to what I learned about her from my genealogy searches. So here goes.

Information about her was much easier to gain than my other grandmother Viktoria.

Her life began in a village near Kandel called Neu Kandel. Her time on earth ended 78 years later in a hospital Quinter Kansas

As you can see from her family listed below Ferdinand her husband died 1914 while she was pregnant with a son born a month later.

Most of her adult life she had a spine that made her walking in a stooped position.

Her father Sebastian Bitz also died when she was 13 years old. Her mother Leokadia then married Georg Waldmann so son Ferdinand and

daughter Ottilia were step children to each other.

Not only did Ottilia migrate to the US but did it twice. After giving birth to two daughters Leokadia (married Peter Ziegler) and Juliana who joined

and beame a Sister spending her life in the New York area. Ferdinand and Ottilia returned to Russia rumor has it that their parents might have encouraged it. So like all young men at that time Ferdinand spent a few years in the Russian Army and they made the 2nd trip to Park Kansas

met by Ferdinand Wildemann who provided a living place for some time.

Parents Georg and Leokadia with families and daughter Juliana came the next summer and homesteaded about 3 miles south of Park.

Thanks so much for sharing this great information. I assume it is included in the family tree that you have submitted to the Black Sea German database?
